I knew that JOHN WICK (2014) starring Keanu Reeves, Michael Myqvist, and Alfie Allen was going to be ripe with action as soon as I read that the film was directed by Reeve’s old stunt double from THE MATRIX back in (1999). What I wasn’t prepared for was the emotional ride I’d take during this action thriller. Genuinely tearing up, I found myself almost immediately attached to the character of JOHN WICK and seriously rooting for him to succeed at all costs.

Forced out of retirement, ex-contract killer JOHN WICK funnels his anger toward the Russian gangsters who stole what little he had left after the traumatic death of his wife only days before. Helen, his soul mate and true love had known that John desperately needed something to love after her passing—something besides his precious car, and the last gift she bestowed on him would ultimately be the catalyst for his return.

The perfect revenge for animal lovers, JOHN WICK will have you cheering as he exacts a kind of payback that we can only imagine when we’ve been wronged. For muscle car enthusiasts, the 1969 Mustang’s workout at the local airport would be another dream come true. All in all, this film is just like a collection of revenge fantasies brought to life for audiences.

Graphically violent, it didn’t take very long for me to lose track of the triple digit body count. An extremely focused assassin, JOHN WICK seems able to extract his revenge on only the guilty, his knack for sparing innocent victims can sometimes be a little tongue in cheek as nobody is that lucky. However, if you love your action splashed with a lot of blood, this will keep you in your seat. Directed by Chad Stahelski, David Leitch, Rated-R, 101 Minutes, Action, Thriller, ***3 stars out of 5.
