Being the 54th Walt Disney animated feature to be released, audiences can rest assured that BIG HERO 6 (2014) starring Ryan Potter, Scott Adsit, and Jamie Chung is following a tried and true formula proven to entice and entertain. The first Disney picture to feature animated Marvel characters, BIG HERO 6 blasts onto the screen fueled by an estimated $165,000,000 budget. So if we bundle all the talent, experience, and financial backing into a single package, it’s not the least bit surprising that Disney’s latest offering will have audiences begging for a sequel.

This action-packed adventure story focuses on the extraordinary bond that forms between Baymax, the roly-poly inflatable robot, and 14 year old Hiro Hamada. Since Hiro was able to reach up and punch code into a keyboard, his family realized that he was a technological prodigy. After teaming up with a group of his friends, they form a rag-tag collection of technologically advanced robots to help right the wrongs in the futuristic city of San Fransokyo.

Celebrating ‘nerd culture’, BIG HERO 6 continues to expand on the premise of television’s BIG BANG THEORY (2007 to 2014), pulling computer geeks out of their bedrooms and shedding a positive light on their lives and accomplishments. Taking this one step further, we ride along as Hiro and his friends fight evil and ultimately rise to heroic status.

Dealing with death and mourning the loss of a loved one, in addition to the repeated fight scenes makes this movie inappropriate for children under the age of 8. There is a reason that Disney released an animated feature with a PG rating, and hopefully parents recognize this before family viewings. Directed by Don Hall and Chris Williams, Rated PG, 102 Minutes, Animated, Action, Adventure, ****4 stars out of 5. NOTE: If you’re previewing for your family, please watch the ending before making your final determination.
