Teen horror flicks have always been a profitable genre for Hollywood. OUIJA (2014) starring Olivia Cooke, Ana Cote, and Daren Kagasoff proves once again that successful producers are more than willing to expend their capital and funnel B-stream talent straight into this very lucrative market. Sadly, there is nothing in OUIJA that we haven’t all seen before, as the movie feels like little more than a giant ‘best-of collection’ of previously viewed horror films. Luckily for the filmmaker, their teen audiences might not have viewed any of the other 12+ Ouija board based movies already released over the last thirty years.

After Debbie Galardi mysteriously commits suicide, her best friend gathers a close knit group of their friends so they can play with the antique Ouija board found among the young girl’s possessions. Within hours of their first session, everyone in the group begins to experience signs that they might be receiving contact from the other side. Desperate to know if the cryptic messages are from their deceased friend, they continue on with the Ouija board.

Perineal horror favorite, Lin Shayne, most recognizable for her work in INSIDIOUS (2010) and INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 2 (2013), once again makes a creepy and plot-turning appearance. Other than Lin’s welcomed presence, OUIJA will barely leave a scratch on your long term memory banks. Directed by Stiles White, Rated PG-13, 89 Minutes, horror. **2 star out of 5. NOTE: At the time of this review, this low budget horror movie produced for only 5 million dollars had already generated 66 million in box office revenue.
