Even the best of marriages are complicated unions, continually evolving over the passage of time. GONE GIRL (2014) starring Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike, and Neil Patrick Harris serves to remind us through repeated twists and turns that no one truly knows what goes on behind closed doors. Based on the bestseller by Gillian Flynn, GONE GIRL will have you guessing just how well you know the very spouse who shares your bed.

After five years of marriage, Nick Dunne comes home to realize that his wife Amy has suddenly disappeared from their Missouri home. Under the powerful microscope of the local police and the ever present media, Nick’s life begins to unravel as everyone begins to ask themselves if he could actually be responsible for his own wife’s murder.

The tenth directorial project for David Fincher, GONE GIRL joins an impressive list of his past works including THE SOCIAL NETWORK (2010), and FIGHT CLUB (1999). Without any major changes from the novel to the screenplay, audiences of either adaptation won’t be able to help comparing the movie to the media sensation of Scott and Laci Peterson, circa 2002…a true-life crime thriller splashed across the tabloids as viewing audiences struggled to assign guilt or resign themselves to innocence.

With buzz of an Academy award already beginning to circulate for GONE GIRL, we’ll have to wait and see if either Ben Affleck or Rosamund Pike will be graced by the touch of a golden statue. Directed by David Fincher, Rated-R, 149 Minutes, Drama, Mystery, and Thriller. **** 4 stars out of 5. NOTE: this film is best enjoyed if you can stay clear of any spoilers.
