TURBO (2013) starring Ryan Reynolds, Paul Giamatti, and Maya Rudolph was actually conceived and subsequently developed by first time director David Soren. After pitching a one page idea to DreamWorks Animation in a competition open only to employees, Soren won the esteemed honor
and saw his FAST & FURIOUS with snails concept developed for the silver screen.

When an everyday snail named Theo is accidentally sucked into the supercharger of a drag racer, his DNA is unexpectantly fused with nitrous-oxide, allowing him to race at breakneck speeds. With his new fame and abilities, Theo's ultimate dream of winning the Indy 500 might no longer be out of his reach.

Although fans of animation will immediately make the connection to CARS and RATATOUILLE, this latest offering by 20th Century Fox is an interesting little gem that is sure to please even the most diversified audience. With a main hero, the likes of which we've never seen before, TURBO allows young audience members a chance to fantasize about a world that lives right underneath their toes. My 3 year old male guest absolutely loved the race sequences and wanted a 'snail-racer' that he could keep as a pet too.

As with most successful animation projects, a video game titled Super Stunt Squad and a television series titled Turbo: Fast Action Stunt Team is scheduled to make its debut in December of 2013. Hopefully the themes of following your dreams, playing to your strengths, and of course never letting anyone tell you that you're out of your league will transfer over to the new projects. Directed by David Soren, Rated-PG, 96 Mins, Animation, Adventure, Comedy, Family. *** 3 stars out of 5.
