A favorite to win big at the 2013 Academy Awards, LINCOLN (2012) starring Daniel Day-Lewis and Sally Fields is the type of movie you should sit back and watch undisturbed if you are to truly
enjoy every nuance and line of the richly worded script. The dialogue is pivotal, as the action is kept to a minimum in this historical drama.

The role of Abraham Lincoln, portrayed with uncanny accuracy by Daniel Day-Lewis, is definitely an Oscar worthy performance. Within minutes of appearing on the screen, we are instantly drawn into Lincoln's world of 1865, and never again question the movie's authenticity.

Lincoln was a jokester, his stories and anecdotal speeches legendary. But beyond the humor, his compassion for his fellow man weighed heavily on his mind as he seriously debated an early end to the civil war. A speedy conclusion would save tens of thousands of lives...yet surely destroy his attempt to pass the 13th amendment abolishing slavery. Although every junior high student is aware of the movie's ending, we still sit with baited breath during the vote. Supporting actor Tommy Lee Jones nails the part of an influential congressman with pinpoint accuracy, a feat we have come to expect during his illustrious forty year acting career.

LINCOLN was nominated for 12 Oscars in 2013. Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Supporting Actor, to name a few. Biography/Drama/History, 150
mins, PG-13, **** 4 stars out of 5.
